Dr. Lewis’ research addresses urban geographies of race and urban housing in the United States and Canada. His research has examined the subprime mortgage crisis and African American experiences in the housing market, particularly the mass evictions following the 2007 foreclosure crisis and grassroots response from Black communities. Dr. Lewis plans to focus his postdoctoral research specifically on how private equity firms and hedge funds are a largely hidden but powerful actors in reshaping rental markets in Canada, looking specifically on how these intersect with urban geographies of race and displacement.
